The HIDRAM Project aims to assist in the decarbonization of maritime transport through the development of innovative technologies related to the value chain of hydrogen and ammonia. It also seeks to enhance the R&D capacity of the Spanish industry related to the hydrogen value chain. Based on this, HIDRAM’s technological challenge will be to develop a pioneering demonstrator in Europe for storing green hydrogen in the form of green ammonia, including the synthesis of ammonia from hydrogen and two technologies for its conversion into electricity: one based on multifuel (H2/NH3) PEM fuel cells adapted to marine sector and another based on SOFC-H fuel cell directly using ammonia. This is expected to yield two proposals as viable and competitive solutions for onboard electrification of ships using green ammonia as fuel.
